Nature Watching

Kerala

The local habitats near to Neeleshwar Hermitage are abundant with wildlife. Guided outings are available at first light or in the cool of the evenings. We provide picnic breakfasts for the morning expedition, including juice, fresh fruits, tea or coffee, eggs, muesli, toast and preserves. We will also provide water for the journey and snacks for the evening outings.

Dawn Birdwatching on the Lagoon at Neeleshwar Hermitage.

At first light, the serene lagoon beside Neeleshwar Hermitage awakens to birdsong. Set between the Arabian Sea and the shore, these calm backwaters provide exceptional early-morning birdwatching in a peaceful, unspoilt setting.

Guests glide quietly by canoe through still waters edged with tropical trees and palms. Brilliant kingfishers skim the surface, green bee-eaters rest lightly on branches, and Brahminy kites wheel against the rising sun. With luck, the endangered Greater Spotted Eagle may also be sighted, along with herons, egrets and other water birds that inhabit this rich coastal habitat.

Quiet, intimate and beautifully natural, the lagoon offers a refined and memorable birdwatching experience in coastal Kerala.
