Karamaat

A small artisan shop at Qayaam Gah

Here at Qayaam Gah, we are happy to announce the opening of Karamaat, a small artisan shop on our premises that will showcase local products and give the craftspeople of the area a window on the wider world, offering them a much-needed boost to their livelihood.

In everyday language, the word karamaat means ‘miracle', but in the spiritual vocabulary of Sufism it also signifies 'unusual skills', which we think a fitting name for our collection of the very best Kashmir has to offer. Highlights of our collection will be exquisite pashmina shawls, woven locally from the softest goat hair and valued all around the world, and the beautifully crafted Kashmiri pheran. The traditional knee-length woolen top garment, pherans are colourful and hand-embroidered with intricate, often floral, designs and make a stylish addition to any wardrobe! Other products on offer will include soft blankets, the purest organic honey and saffron sourced directly from the nearby farmers.

We are confident our guests will enjoy sampling this range of practical, hand-crafted goods, while at the same time helping to perpetuate traditional skills that have been practised for centuries in this unique part of the world. We look forward to welcoming you to Karamaat.
