Sustainable & Responsible Tourism

We are a company with a purpose: supporting the well-being of people, society, and our Mother Earth.

As stewards of invaluable land, ABChapri Retreats are committed to creating a sustainable, eco- friendly environment for guests and the community alike.

Our policy of giving employment to the neighbouring village communities has been with us for fifteen years now, and has evolved into a 95% local ABChapri ‘family’ of staff that learn and grow with us.

Produce is locally sourced ensuring maximum freshness and minimum food-miles, while providing vital support for the local economy. Through our carefully curated tours we encourage guests to connect with village life and culture to gain an enriching experience of all our destinations with positive footprints for all to benefit.

We are exceptionally proud of our No-Plastic policy. From the beginning we have served water filtered by the very latest reverse osmosis system, served traditionally copper vessels or glass. All discharged water is in turn re-cycled, treated and used to compost the land rather than pollute the river, lake or sea.

Constantly striving to improve our ecological footprint, we incorporate local building techniques and materials in our ventures and by 2023 aim to further our use of solar powered lights in all our existing properties.

Being Responsible.

All the shampoos, conditioners and lotions that we use are fully organic and sourced from YOGI, the leading environmentally responsible provider of Ayurvedic products. They are bottled here at Neeleshwar Hermitage and Qayaam Gah in our handmade ceramic bottles, which are recyclable, being of course thoroughly washed before re-using. In this simple but effective way we like to show our respect for nature's way and the gifts she gives us, and would hope that our doing so can gently encourage all our guests to do the same.

We implement this approach in all our properties in the very different environments of mountainous Kashmir and seaside Kerala, alongside a strictly 'no-plastic' policy and a consistent use of local materials,. We also close our resorts for almost 45 days each year and put everything into hibernation. This keeps our operations in conformity with the universal balance of rest and activity that regulates everything in life - night and day, sleeping and waking, winter and spring - and implements a balance that allows for natural and regular renewal from within.

As stewards of the local land, we not only see it as our duty, but as a source of pleasure to do all we can to create an eco-friendly environment.
